Kyle Evans has joined Robe’s creative team which is led by Nathan Wan and known for ensuring style and flair are at the forefront of all Robe’s exhibition stands and live show spectaculars in addition to producing a host of other imaginative multimedia, video and live performance assets, promotional activities and training.
Kyle will be working as junior lighting and media programmer alongside Nathan and the current team of Jordan Tinniswood and Andy Webb. He will generally be assisting wherever needed, including console configuration, assisting with programming, creating Capture previsualisation models and many other tasks including as in-house AI wrangler.
Kyle will also be working worldwide with Robe’s Theatre Workshop as a systems tech, as well as sharing support duties at Robe HQ’s showroom in the Czech Republic.
In the immediate future, the Team is working furtively on Robe’s new live show trilogy which will be premiered at the PLASA London expo in September. This will also play LDI 2024 in Las Vegas and Prolight 2025 in Frankfurt, and the rumours are to stand-by for another breathtaking epic!
Growing up in Wrexham, North Wales, Kyle was first attracted to the wonderful world of lighting and production after his first concert – The 1975 at Manchester Arena. He saw all the amazing lights – designed by their long-term LD Tobias Rylander – and was transfixed by how creative and dramatic good lighting could be, and how exciting a job working with light in some form might be.
His first live events experience was at Coleg Cambria’s Yale site where he studied backstage theatre production, after which he went to university at The Academy of Live Technology in Production Park, Wakefield, studying live event production, and specialising in lighting design and practice.
During this time, he joined Robe’s NRG (Next Robe generation) educational initiative, which Nathan explained is a great introduction to young creatives that also enables opportunities for him to work with them and assess their abilities in real-life show and event scenarios.
Nathan comments, "We are delighted to welcome Kyle onboard. His energy and enthusiasm are fantastic, he’s keen to learn and has a real appetite for knowledge. He will be a great asset to the team as we take on more demanding projects worldwide.”
Nathan – who has a penchant for spotting new talent – first worked with Kyle when the latter was one of the NRG crew at the 2023 TPi Awards at the Battersea Evolution venue, and it was here that his personality and attitude stood out to Nathan.
Kyle notes this event as a “fantastic opportunity” where he was able to programme the outdoor architectural lighting which comprised 10 x iFORTE luminaires, highlighting the exterior.
He again supported Nathan and the team this year at Prolight+Sound in Frankfurt, where he worked as a system tech for the grand finale of Robe’s “Power of Imagination” live show.
Nathan commented that Kyle is “calm under pressure, a good communicator and a team player who is prepared to work super hard to help achieve the final result.”
Kyle has always liked Robe as a brand. He reckons the products are excellent and likes the real “family vibes” of the company. He appreciates how the NRG programme further supports this and young people who might be considering a career in the industry. “I was made to feel so welcome as a student by Robe, coupled with being offered invaluable knowledge-expanding opportunities like RoboSpot training before I actually joined the Team for real,” he explained.
As a creative person, he loves being involved with “all aspects of stage lighting” and has a zest for everything related to gaining more experience and knowledge in the field. “I am incredibly lucky to now be working with this amazing team,” he concluded.
